Floor Restoration “The Process”
We was a company like to show you what you are getting for your money, therefore have taken the time to explain our sanding and sealing process for you:
Repairs
First point would be to carry out any necessary repairs, that need making to your floor, this could consist with block repairs, floor board repairs, panel repairs, lifting old blocks, lifting up different pieces of the floor for different reasons.
Then once lifted the sub floor would have to be checked for moisture, and then this would have to repaired and levelled before the replacement or existing wood blocks etc can be stuck back in.
The final stage would be leaving the repaired block to dry, the specific time that the glue takes, so that it would be completely solid and ready to dry, some glues are fast trying, some glues take longer.
Rough Sanding
The next process would be to rough sand the middle and edges of the floor using a big sanding machine and edger, these would be run on a range of grits such as 16 grit, 24 grit, 36 grit, 40 grit.
These grits will take the excess off the surface such as old seals and oils, and will also take the stain off in which has been stained underneath the seal.
The rough sand should take the floor down to its bare wood finish, but with a rough feel to the type of the surface.
Fine Sanding + Filling
We would then start to use a finer grit such as an 80 grit, once the room has been completed with an 80 grit, we would then begin to fill any gaps if any that required to be filled.
We would then continue to fine sand with a 120 grit which will take off the excess filler on the surface and would continue to give the floor the finest smooth finish.
Buffing + Cleaning
We then buff the floor using a specialist buffing machine which will give it an even finer smooth finish, the floor and this point should be extremely flat, extremely smooth and have a thin layer of dust on the service.
This thin layer of dust is vacuumed up so that the floor is completely dust free and is completely clear of anything that may be on the surface, this will then leave the floor in a ready condition to be sealed, weather it will be oiled or weather it will be sealed using a polyurethane based seal.
